Bison Book Buddy Project

WHO WE ARE

The Mission of Carlisle Schools is to ensure our students' future success through learning, growing, and reaching new heights. We truly believe that our Bison today become leaders tomorrow, as stated in our schoolwide vision. The Bison Book Buddy Project was born from the yearning of educators in the district to create a passion for reading in our students and community. The Bison Book Buddy Project's goal is simple: Ignite a love for reading in Carlisle.

WHAT WE DO

According to CNBC, "reading increases emotional intelligence, and consequently, your career outlooks." With this information in mind, The Bison Book Buddy Project seeks to generate the desire to read in our students as well as the community of Carlisle. We do this by partnering with local businesses and community members, guiding them through sharing books with students, and that's it! Known in the education world as "Book Talks," collaborators make a short video discussing the story they have chosen to be shared with the students of Carlisle School District, as well as our community.

WHY WE READ

(and you should, too)

Studies from Scholastic, a trusted book company for decades, show that 83% of children who are read aloud to love it (or like it a lot). Furthermore, 6 additional minutes of reading per day can significantly improve kids’ reading performance, as stated by Renaissance, a global leader in pre-K–12 education technology. These statistics are, as they say, a drop in the bucket when it comes to reasons we should be reading...but TBBBP needs no further encouragement. Studies show that reading leads to leading!
